Baby Growth Charts

Baby growth charts are a great way to maintain an idea of how much your child has grown over the years. Baby growth charts were invented to obtain heights and weights of hundreds of children so that there can be a healthy average height and weight obtained for us to follow. Baby growth charts vary in ages. Some charts can be as simple as from newborn to 1 year old. Other baby growth charts can measure their height from age 1 to age 10. There are even growth charts that the age section is blank and you can also note in the child's weight. You can choose the growth chart that you feel will best suit you and your child's needs. Baby growth charts are also wonderful gifts that you could give someone at their baby shower since many women don't even realize that growth charts are out there. Personal baby growth charts are very inexpensive and you can even make your own. The National Center for Health Statistics has made their own growth chart for boys, age 0 to 36 months and also age 3 to 18 years of age, and girls, age 0 to 36 months, and also age 3 to 18 years of age. They also have adjusted growth charts for babies that are born prematurely or have certain disabilities.

Baby growth charts are also great ways to understand your child's health. By noting your child's growth rate you can tell if your baby is getting proper nutrition and if they are growing properly. Babies who receive good nutrition, emotional bonding from the parents, and have not developed a medical problem or serious illness will grow following a regular pattern. Your doctor will always make a note of your child's height and weight at most doctor visits throughout your baby's life. Your doctor will also measure your child's head. It is a good idea to keep in mind that very small growth chart measurement errors can occur. A squirmy child isn't always read 100% accurately. The average weight of a baby is as follows: At birth the average is 6 to 8 pounds. At age 4 months the average is 10 to 15 pounds. At age 8 months the average is 16 to 20 pounds. At age 12 months the average is 20 to 25 pounds. And at age 2 the average is 25 to 30 pounds. Height also plays an important role in baby growth charts.
