Uncommon baby names are becoming more common as today's society begins looking back at old
fashioned names, historical names, and coming up with names on their own. Uncommon means
unusual or infrequent. So basically an uncommon baby name isn't found in the top 100 or 200
baby names. Uncommon baby names actually don't really have to be a new idea or completely
unique. For example the name Randy was popular 50 years ago, but now days you don't meet many
new babies or children with this name.
When you think about what you want to name your baby you might like the idea of a
not-so-popular name but you may also want the name to be somewhat recognizable. You
might not want people asking "Is that really an actual name"?
Plenty of new parents want to find many uncommon baby names. A lot of parents don't
want their child to share their name with 2 or 3 other kids in their class. That is
quite understandable. There are a number of different ways that you can go about
researching uncommon baby names. For example, you could look through names of famous
people throughout history, or you could search for uncommon baby names online or in
books at your local bookstore, or at the library.
One very popular way of finding some uncommon baby names is to look at famous names in
history, like the names that were use back when your great grandmother was a little girl.
Mary, Helen, and Dorothy are some good examples for girls. Edward, Frank, and Arthur are
some good examples for boys. You should keep in mind however, that these names sometimes
cycle up and down on the list of popularity. Keep in mind that any name in the top 100
names for boys and girls would not be a good choice if you are looking for uncommon baby
names.
Before deciding on a name you should ask yourself some questions. When your baby grows up
will his name be taken seriously? If you decide to give your baby a cute nickname will that
name last into his adulthood? Is the name too common? Is the name too uncommon for your liking?
Choosing a name can be quite overwhelming because there are so many names available. You need to
decide on a good name that your child will enjoy having. Don't pick a name that your child would
be ashamed of. You can talk to your family and friends about different name ideas and see what
their opinions are on certain names. They may be able to point on some legitimate reasons to why
your baby wouldn't like this name. Make sure the discussion doesn't get heated, take their
opinions lightly and don't get upset if they just don't like the name you have chosen. This
is your decision, not theirs. Many parents and families can end up being very happy with their
choices in uncommon baby names.
